Bard PowerPort® Litigation Attorneys

The Bard PowerPort® is a port and catheter medical device that is implanted below the skin to deliver medication and fluids to the bloodstream. Recently, these devices, manufactured by C.R. Bard, have been linked to serious health complications, including infections and injuries.

Our firm is pursuing product liability lawsuits against C.R. Bard and its subsidiary, Becton Dickinson, because the Bard PowerPort® is prone to breaking or fracturing, increasing the risk of embolism, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), vein or organ puncture, infection, and other serious complications.

Injuries Caused by Bard PowerPort® Defects

There is growing evidence to suggest that the Bard PowerPort® has significant design flaws. These flaws potentially lead to the catheter's ChronoFlex material fissuring, fracturing, or cracking, causing serious health risks to patients.

Patients who experienced a catheter fracture can suffer health complications, such as infections, pain, and vascular damage. When the broken catheter fragments enter the blood vessels, they can cause life-threatening medical conditions like pulmonary embolism, sepsis, and cardiac arrhythmia. These complications may require emergency surgery to remove the fragments and repair blood vessels.

In addition to fractures, catheter migration is another issue caused by the defective design of the Bard PowerPort®. This issue arises when the catheter moves from its original position, potentially causing a perforation in blood vessels and other complications. The migrated catheter can sometimes lodge in a patient's heart, posing even more severe risks, such as cardiac injury and blood vessel damage.

As a result, many patients have endured pain, serious infections, and further complications due to the design flaws of these devices. Now, individuals injured by Bard PowerPort® catheters can seek justice and compensation by filing lawsuits against C.R. Bard.

If you experienced any of the following conditions post-implantation, you might be eligible to pursue compensation through a Bard PowerPort® lawsuit:

  • Infections: You may qualify if you suffered sepsis, septic shock, or serious infections that can lead to organ damage or death.
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): DVT, a blood clot in a deep vein, typically in the leg, can be life-threatening if it travels to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism.
  • Hemorrhaging or Bleeding Injuries: Uncontrollable bleeding is a serious condition requiring immediate medical attention.
  • Fluid Buildup Around the Heart: Known as pericardial effusion, this can cause shortness of breath, chest pain, and other heart-related problems.
  • Irregular Heartbeat: An abnormal heart rhythm known as arrhythmia can lead to serious health complications, including stroke and heart failure.
  • Severe and Persistent Pain: Chronic pain, particularly in the chest or neck, could indicate a device malfunction.
  • Perforations of Tissues, Vessels, and Organs: If the PowerPort® catheter has punctured any tissues, vessels, or organs, this is a severe complication.
  • Wrongful Death: If a loved one passed away due to any of the above complications linked to the Bard PowerPort® device, you may be able to file a lawsuit on their behalf.
  • Other Injuries: If you experienced injuries due to a fractured PowerPort® catheter, you may still be eligible to file a claim.
